Nepal-based Singapore photographer Edwin Koo won 3rd prize in UNICEF Photo of the Year 2009

Edwin is a Nepal-based freelance photographer represented by ZUMA Press agency. Born in Singapore, Edwin holds a Bachelor of Communications degree from Singapore's Nanyang Technological University. He worked as a press photographer with media conglomerate Singapore Press Holdings for five years.

About the Book: A milestone in the history of Professional Photography in Singapore, this is a handbook of Professional Photography practices aimed at Photographers of all levels, not just professionals. It contains quality input from working professional photographers from all areas of the industry working together to compile valuable information on industry best practices, industry definitions, information on copyright, insurance and taxation, supporting professionals and government agency listings, as well as other important areas. For Photography Clients, there is a section on choosing the right photographer, copyright and licensing information, as well as a listing of professional photographers and their contact details together with samples of their work.

EXPOSURE Photography Exhibition @ Orchard Central

Dear PPAS members,

We are participating in the EXPOSURE Photography Exhibition at Orchard Central for a month starting 21 Jan 2010.

As part of the soft launch for our PPAS Handbook, we are exhibiting a daily slideshow of the members’ portfolio works featured in our handbook, together with static displays by some of our advertisers. The PPAS will also be conducting a clinic this Saturday from 3pm – 4pm, right outside Ape Communications office at #B1-23/24, on the following topics:

• Introduction to PPAS
• Introduction to PPAS Handbook
• Introduction to the different areas of professional photography, eg. Wedding, architectural, journalistic, portrait, fashion, etc.
• What is it like to be a professional photographer
• What it takes to become a professional photographer
• Some general advice on starting a photography business
• Q&A to be answered by a panel of professional photographers from PPAS

Region's only international fair focusing on contemporary photography

Asia International Photography Fair (AIPF), the region's first fair for contemporary photo-based artworks, will be held from 8-12 October 2009 at the Suntec Singapore Convention Centre. Housed together with ARTSingapore, an annual fair devoted to contemporary visual arts, AIPF aims to meet the emerging demand for imagery and photographical art forms in Asia Pacific.

In its 9th year, ARTSingapore is the only major art fair in Southeast Asia. Held annually, this contemporary Asian art fair has established a reputation as the place to see contemporary art and museum-quality pieces in Asia. Here, leading art galleries launch new pieces by young artists that will set the trend for the next few years. The event attracts about 15,000 art collectors, art lovers annually.

Richard W J Koh received two Honourable Mentions for photo submissions "Dance in the Light" and "Heart of Design" at PX3 2009 Competition. Juried by top international decision-makers in the photography industry, winners were selected from over 6,000 entries from 85 countries.

Two of Teo's recent works, entitled 'Escalators' and 'Public Housing' have been nominated and ' Public Housing' was awarded Outstanding Achievements under the Professional Abstract Category in the 2009 International Color Awards.

The winners of the 2009 Px3 Water Competition have recently been publically announced and Richard Koh's entry entitled, "Thawing Droplets" has been selected for the 2009 "Prix de la Photographie, Paris" Px3 exhibition.

Andrew Chew is no stranger to Japan. Fascinated by Japanese arts and culture as a youth, he has been a frequent traveler to the country for over 10 years, and has even made a documentary film on Japanese ballroom dancing for National Geographic.
