Keeping the Faith

Inside the photo studio of Ruth Soh, the 43-year-old willowy mother of two teenage girls was a picture of contemplation. Her head in a bowed position, her eyes shut and a finger resting on her forehead, she was not in a hurry to answer what you thought was a straightforward question. Then in a moment least expected, she snapped her fingers. Her thoughts had crystallised into words.

Join us on February 23rd for a special presentation by commercial photographer Charles Howells at the Singapore Art Museum. Charles is one of the top fashion and beauty photographer in New Zealand and has worked with many international brands on their advertisements on-location in New Zealand, New York, Detroit, LA and Sydney. Besides sharing his portfolio and photography experience gained from working with clients such as Louis Vutton and Karen Magazine, Charles will also run a live portrait demo to share shooting and digital imaging tips that have served him well in his work.

Of Nuances and Narratives

Names often evoke the lofty hopes of parents for their offspring. Yet, rarely do these parents realise their child’s chosen name also speaks volumes about themselves. As for the name of Gulzar Aman Wadhwa – son of CJ Sameer Wadhwa and Imelda Wadhwa – it is an embodiment of his parents’ flair for meaningful storytelling.

The winners of the 2009 Px3 Water Competition have recently been publically announced and Richard Koh's entry entitled, "Thawing Droplets" has been selected for the 2009 "Prix de la Photographie, Paris" Px3 exhibition.

Japan: Streets Without Names - Introduction

Andrew Chew is no stranger to Japan. Fascinated by Japanese arts and culture as a youth, he has been a frequent traveler to the country for over 10 years, and has even made a documentary film on Japanese ballroom dancing for National Geographic. But when Andrew began to photograph its cities in 2005, he found himself drawn to the brooding undercurrent of loneliness and isolation he felt and saw beneath the ordinary surfaces of urban Japan.
